Friends to lovers is becoming a favorite trope of mine and this book definitely helped solidify that! Maeve and Asher have been friends for years, and honestly I love their friendship from the start. Maeve is chaotic, quirky, unapologetically herself, and I love her vibe! She is also fiercely protective of her friends...which is how she ends up in a bidding war for a date with Asher to prevent another woman from winning.
As we get more of their story, it is painfully clear that they both have been falling in love for years, although they might be the only two people to not see it at first. But when their Vegas date ends with them getting married and the world finding out, what are they supposed to do now? The chemistry between them is palpable and I love their teasing banter! Plus, when we do get some spice, LB doesn't let us down! While I've loved every couple in this series so far, they might be my new favorite!
Audiobook: The narration for this book is fantastic! It is duet narration with Vanessa Edwin and Robert Hatchet and they perfectly portray Asher and Maeve! I knew I'd devour this, but the audiobook made it impossible for me to put down until I was done!
What to expect:
-Marriage of convenience
-Brother's best friend
-Best friends to lovers
-Marriage pact
-Hockey player x artist
-It's always been you
-Found family
-They adopt a dog
Thank you Lauren Blakely and KP Simmon for the ARC & ALC of this book in exchange for my honest review!! I cannot wait for the next book in this series because they all have been amazing so far!

I enjoyed this very spicy hockey romance! I loved Asher and Maeve and their friendship. They are so cute! The marriage of convenience was fun and I really liked watching their relationship grow from friends to more.
I loved the dual narration and thought Vanessa Edwin and Robert Hatchet did a great job bringing the characters to life!

Lauren Blakely’s The Proposal Play ticks all the boxes for me:
Hockey Romance
Brother's Best Friend
Best Friends to Lovers
Marriage of Convenience
Forced Proximity
COME ONNNNN! This book is everything I love rolled into one. It’s definitely my favorite dynamic in the Love and Hockey series so far.
Asher and Maeve are witty, full of banter, and have been pining over each other for YEARS without even realizing it. Watching their friendship evolve was so satisfying, especially as they started to uncover that these "new" feelings between them had actually been simmering for much longer than they thought.
Their connection felt so genuine. From meeting in grief counseling, growing up together as a trio of friends with her brother, to continuing to support each other’s ambitions as adults, their journey was heartfelt and authentic. I couldn’t help but fall for Asher and Maeve as they fell for each other.
And the spice? Lauren Blakely nails it every time! The chemistry, the tension, and the payoff—everything about The Proposal Play is pure magic. This story has my whole heart.

I’ve read some of Lauren’s books years back, and it was a mixed bag of ratings for me. So when the opportunity to read this one as it has one of my favourite troupes, I was excited to read it! The beginning was a bit of a slow start for me. The build up sort of dragged on a little too much, but about 40% of the way through, the story picks up and things finally start happening.
I felt like this story had a lot of potential, but i just didn’t feel like the writing flowed as well as I was hoping it would. The last 20% was the best part if the book. Everything did finally get pulled together and it was a good ending. I would still say it’s worth it for others to read because they may not feel the same as me about Lauren’s writing. I personally would also try another one of her books if it tickles my interest again too

Is there anything better than marrying your best friend?
Maeve and Asher find out in this funny accidentally married, but staying married for convenience romance.
Tropes:
Accidental marriage
Marriage of convenience
Friends to lovers
Best friends little sister
One bed
He falls first
Sports romance (who doesn’t love hockey)
There’s also really good mental health representation here: anxiety, self esteem issues, obsessive behaviors. There’s mention of therapy which I love to see.
And as with any good romance there’s a hater trying to derail everything! But you know what there’s not ? A. Third. Act. Breakup. 🙌🏽🙌🏽 even when they get a little rocky they stay together! There’s also some moments where I was yelling at my kindle JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER. But miscommunication was done really well here. In a case where everyone knew they were in love but themselves.
I would definitely recommend this one!

This is the third book I’ve read by Lauren Blakely and it did not disappoint! I love how she is able to bring together spice, humor, and emotional depth in her stories. Vanessa Edwin & Robert Hatchet did a wonderful job performing this audiobook in duet narration!
This is the third book in the Love and Hockey series, but can be read as a stand-alone. However, if you do read the whole series I love how the characters make cameos in subsequent books. Maeve’s lunches and texts with her group of girl friends & Asher’s locker room scenes with his teammates were some of my favorite parts of the book. I adored Eleanor, the older woman who is part of the hockey teams ownership! There are also two cute dogs in this story: Holmes & Ruby Rooster (you’ll giggle at the meaning behind that name).
The mental health representation in the story was stellar. As someone who struggles with anxiety, and specifically health anxiety, Asher’s storyline really hit home for me. Blakely did an excellent job fleshing out the nuances behind his behaviors and how it impacted his relationships. I love how Asher advocates for therapy and is even starting a foundation to promote mental health access. Swoon!
Read this if you love: friends to lovers, brother’s best friend, hockey romance, marriage of convenience, marriage pact, found family
