This Novela is so short, but it felt long. It’s a slow burn that lacks character development. The setting feels flimsy, and the interpersonal relationships are under formed. This leads to a lack of tension. The twist in the story really couldn’t save it. It just was too little too late.

This was my first time reading a Christmas book, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of it. I thought a novella was the perfect way to present this story. I haven't read a more modern murder mystery before, and I found that the Christmas atmosphere gave the setting more credibility. I liked the unreliability of narrator(s) in the story and the distinction between the two parts. It was fun to guess and make predictions, and then see how it all transpired. In the end, I found it to be a profoundly sad book, with just a vague enough ending to keep me wondering about the fate of a certain character. I would recommend this to people who like a quick read (I read it in an afternoon), those who want a seasonal book, and those who like a murder mystery.
