The Christmas Guest

Peter Swanson

3.56 AVERAGE

I am generally a Peter Swanson fan, so I was pretty eager to pick this novella up. The length was perfect for the plot, but I hated the ending and it had one of my least favorite tropes in the last 15 pages. Honestly, I would definitely read a full length novel unpacking Adam or Emma! Would recommend just for the Christmas vibes ✨

I get it but it wasn't great after the reveal. I didn't need everything described to me. Could've been shorter?
dark mysterious slow-paced

The story was interesting, although it felt so short, as we didn’t have a chance to get to know the 3 important characters better, nor enough time to feel the thriller tension much. And we didn’t get to know why all the murdered girls look like Emma!!
I liked the very last part tho, Adam had the potential to be an interesting psychopathic serial killer, if we got an additional part for him.
Yet I think the book is a solid 3.5 to 4 stars

A quick read. Basic language for the most part. Overly simple plot. No real twist.

This was a murder mystery style novella with a nice twist. Set at Christmas time, American exchange student Ashley goes to stay with her friend Emma’s rich English family in the countryside for the holiday and some frightening and mysterious events ensue. It was a solid book and was the thematic read I was looking for in the days before Christmas.

This was a pretty fun novella. I picked it up cuz I wanted something Christmasy but also a thriller and this did the job. It’s on KU, easy and quick one sitting read. I liked it.

It's got a unique structure, but the story is just fine.
