The Christmas Guest

Not quite cozy mystery, not quite Christmas thriller, this was the perfect little story to get me started in on more holiday reading.

When Ashley gets invited to a friend’s English estate for the holidays, the plot starts to thicken and Scooby Doo shenanigans begin. Weird family members, a creepy guy in the woods, things of course are not as they seem to be.

A little creepy, but more fun, I think most with enjoy this little Christmas caper.

Fun Christmas thriller!

Not nearly as interesting as I thought it would be, and if it weren't so short I may have not finished it. It feels like there should have been more. Overall,I give it a 3.5

Interesting story line. Story, for the most part, told via protagonist’s diary entries. Other than the protagonist being a guest at Christmas holiday time I didn’t feel the book had much Christmas/holiday spirit going on. Quick listen on audiobook. I didn’t overly love any of the characters so likely why it was just an OK read for me.

It was interesting… grim is accurate.

The first half of this novella wasn’t as interesting to me as the second half. I have not come across a Peter Swanson book I do not like. I enjoy his style, atmospheric, twisty and 3-dimensional characters.

I enjoyed this novella, it’s unsettling and creepy in a fun way. I don’t always love diary entries as prose, but it didn’t bother me this time. I did really like the setting and atmosphere the author created.
