I do love an unreliable narrator! This was a fun book and I would have loved more. I was thrown off my the writing style however but still fun!

Solid 3.5 ⭐️

This thriller novella surprised me with its ability to catch me off guard with its twists. It was less than 100 pages but still managed to keep me guessing. I really enjoyed this one and it was the perfect read for the holidays.

I was given a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Peter Swanson likes surprises. And not the good ones like a puppy under the Christmas tree. No, he likes the creepy ones that make you suspect every person you've ever considered a friend. But he does it so well.

Ashley is a Californian attending college in England. With no family or close friends to return to for the holidays, she is excited when Emma invites her to spend the holidays with her at her home in the Cotswolds. As the week progresses, we see through her eyes via diary entries how it's not just the quaintness that she is besotted with, but Emma's brother.

But nothing is really as it seems, not even a diary.

The Christmas Guest shows you can learn a lot about someone through their diary.  This book was a quick read that was interesting front to back.  It really picked up about halfway through.  I def didn't expect the twists and heart.

This short novella by Peter Swanson scratched my Christmas thriller itch. I was able to fly through it very quickly due to the length and interesting story. The great thing about a novella is that there isn’t a lot of room for fluff.

Everything is short, sweet, and to the point. The perfect Christmas mystery to unravel.

I had this one figured out pretty early on. There were a few details that I didn’t see coming. It is still enjoyable although I found it to be predictable.

The book is mainly journal entries being read and reminisced on. The audiobook was nice because you could hear the turning of pages.

However! The audiobook is the reason I so easily figured out what was going on. The narrator gave it away from the first word. So, although the audiobook production was good, do NOT listen to it because it will spoil the story for you.

3.5 ⭐️s rounded up

A bite-sized Christmas thriller at ~100 pages!

Okay so I thought this was really odd at first and I had to put down my audiobook version (hated the accent) and pick up my e-galley because I was committed to buddy reading this and it’s super short. I stuck with it and it got me way more suspenseful and intriguing! I kinda loved how most of the story was told through journal entries. The ending did feel a little unsatisfying, and maybe unnecessary.

Thank you to William Morrow, the author, and NetGalley for the e-galley!
