This was one of my favorite Christmas novellas I've read this year. The murder was interesting and twisty, and the characters were well developed.
When Ashley, an American orphan college student, joins Emma, a posh British girl, for Christmas in the English countryside, things get interesting. There's an attractive older brother, an unsolved murder, and complex family dynamics in play.
I thought this story was very well done for a one sitting tale. It built tension, had an absorbing mystery, and had a twisty satisfying conclusion. It's not a warm, feel good Christmas story, but it is propulsive and entertaining.
I'll definitely be on the lookout for other Peter Swanson reads.
