It was really good. There were so many twists, however, one of them was really obvious. I can't wait to read the second one.

I really wanted to enjoy this more than I did. I just felt like, following the high fantasy I have been reading, this fell kinda flat, the world is childish, though sweet and lovable, and despite wanting a strong FMC, I got Jude, who I hope will get better and better, if I decide to read on.
The Cruel prince is an interesting take on the enemies to lovers front and takes place in a well-thought-out fantasy world. Holly Black spends extensive time laying the settings out for the reader and good plot twists are included as the story unfolds. The story contains good vocabulary except for a few cuss words and illustrates the complexity of several characters. Overall, a good recommendation if you want to read a fantasy (with a bit of romance) book and a strong female protagonist.

I wanted to like this more than I ended up liking it, and I found it incredibly mid. I feel like I was kind of hate reading it past a certain point. It really does take the first half of the book for things to start happening. I found most of the main cast unlikable and one dimensional but also the drama is so over the top I felt like I was gawking at a really slow moving train that just can’t, despite all logic, figure out how to stop. I will still probably read the other books because the world is interesting and there were a few of the support characters that I felt had potential so I want to give the rest of the books a fair chance.
