No idea why this book has so many good reviews.
The story is not that interesting, the characters are plain and stupid. Their behaviour has nothing to do with becoming self sufficient, it's more about starving themselves and a child, for fun.
The writing is also painful to read - there's a lot of he said she said...

but, i still think it's a really valuable book and made me think a lot about family and lesbian motherhood and living off the land!
I did not enjoy this book. Both the writing style and the plot were not for me.
The premise of this book was super cool to me, but I was slightly let down. The writing was great, especially the chapters from perley's perspective. I thought all the parts describing how they lived off the land to be great. However Lily, Helen, Rudy, and especially Karen were very frustrating characters. And personally I prefer and ending that is less vague.
