I recently read Eileen Cook's [b:With Malice|26153925|With Malice|Eileen Cook|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1465546059s/26153925.jpg|46110542], which I enjoyed but thought that the premise could be a little more interesting (it reminded me a lot of [b:Rosebush|7778996|Rosebush|Michele Jaffe|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1342443837s/7778996.jpg|10695433] by Michele Jaffe, which was also about a girl who couldn't remember her accident). But I think The Hanging Girl is a definite improvement! I loved the premise - a girl who pretends to be psychic and reads tarot cards to earn money, and a dark plot to earn some cash so she can move to New York, which ends up spiralling out of control. The twists kept coming and I loved that it was unpredictable - I am extremely picky with thrillers and mysteries, but I couldn't predict the plot twists before they came in this novel. Skye was also a great character - morally dubious but still sympathetic with a great voice. Will definitely be looking out for Eileen's next book!

Thanks to Hot Key for the arc.

I received a free copy of this book through Readers First in return for an honest review.

I've been reading more and more thrillers recently and when I saw that this book had stuff to do with a fake psychic, I was intrigued. I like reading about that sort of thing even with supernatural powers involved so it was interesting to read a pure thriller about one.

What I Liked

- The twists
-The characters
-The writing

What I Didn't Like

-I wasn't so sure about how justice wasn't truly served in the end
-I would have liked more details on what exactly happened to Paige in the end

Overall

Though I'm not sure how to phrase my thoughts on this book, I really enjoyed it. It was a quick and easy read and it has plenty of action to keep you going. There's a lot of twists, including one in the last few pages that made me go what the fuck.

This is definitely a book to look out for.

I got a copy of this book via Readers First in exchange for an honest review!

The Hanging Girl is the second book that I've read by Eileen Cook, With Malice, being the first, I wasn't so keen on With Malice, it was exciting and intriguing but I was let down a little bit, so when I saw this I thought that I would give Eileen's books another try, and I have to say this one was much better!

This book is a YA, Thriller, Mystery which is one of my favourite genres as I love becoming Sherlock trying to figure some things out myself, I throughly enjoyed this book and flew through it within about four hours, its the right length being just over 300 pages so it isn't too long or too short!

I got into this book quite quickly, it draws you in so that you end up being gripped by the book in need to know what's happening, to me this book was fast paced. We follow a girl named Skye who reads tarot cards to people even though she knows it's fake she reads people and has inside access to information about them, when the kidnapping happens Skye also has inside knowledge of the crime to help the police find the missing girl, we find out just how much knowledge she knows and why. With Skye needing cash fast to go to New York with her best friend in just a few months, even with her job, Skye hasn't been able to save any money to join her friend which is why Skye takes part in what she thinks is just a harmless prank. For me, the ending of this book was satisfying though I do believe some people might have wanted a slightly different ending but I think it's a well rounded ending!

So all in all, this was a good fast paced read and I definitely recommend this book if you enjoy YA Thrillers, it's a good enjoyable read.

*Thanks again to the publisher for sending me an ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*

Candi Skye Thorn is a senior in high school and has been giving tarot readings for several years now. She doesn’t believe that she actually has psychic abilities but she knows a lot about the people at her school which helps her fake her readings. But when the town’s golden girl goes missing, she decides to help the police with her psychic visions because this time, she has some inside knowledge. Unfortunately though, things don’t go the way Skye expected them to go and suddenly the rest of her senior year is a lot more complicated than she thought it would be.

‘The Hanging Girl’ is the first one of Eileen Cook’s books I’ve read and I already know that it wasn’t the last one. I immediately fell in love with her writing style and I can’t wait to get more of it. If you’re looking for a great YA mystery thriller, this is the book you should choose.

It kept me on the edge of my seat and I just flew through it because I needed to know what was going to happen next. There are several major plot twists in this book and I didn’t see any of them coming. They were very well done and actually made me gasp. Another thing I loved about this book was that it has pretty short chapters. It may sound weird but that’s actually a big plus for me. When I need to take a break for some unexpected reason, I just hate having to stop reading a book in the middle of a chapter just because I would have to read another thirty pages to get to the next one.

The only thing that bothered me a little was that the characters just felt a little flat. I didn’t really feel connected with any of them, not even with Skye even though the book was written from her point of view. But this is just a minor thing and it definitely didn’t destroy my reading experience.

All in all, this was a great book and I really, really enjoyed it. I decided to give it 4 out of 5 stars and I highly recommend you get yourself a copy once it comes out. I’m definitely going to get myself a copy of her other book ‘Without Malice’ now because it’s been on my TBR since it came out.
