"I wish you would have left me in the water." This quote made my heart drop. This book is amazing 5/5. I walked into this book believing it was about war. I was so surprised. This book was very impactful and moving. If you do not know what it is about, all I can say is it is about righting a wrong and how much one decision affected the entirety of Assefs life.

The annual Kite running competition is here. Assef and his "friend" Hassan are eager to participate. Assef flies the kite and Hassan is the kite runner. Assef wants to win this competition to gain validation from his dad who has always seemed to favor his friend Hassan. Assef and Hassan do win the competition but it is not official until the kite runner secures the fallen kite from his opponent. Hassan a loyal devoted friend would not let anything get in the way of Assef's accomplishment. So he runs to receive the kite. It's been an hour so Assef searches for Hassan, he eventually does find him in an alley cornered by their bullies from the past. Assef witnesses something that would change the course of his life, his friend was sexually assaulted. Will Assef choose his dad's affirmation that he has been seeking for 12 years? Or, will he tell his father about the scene he just witnessed? And how will that decision affect the rest of his life? Read the Kite Runner to find out.

This is a gut wrenching book that also happens to show the sweet side of childhood and friendship.
While exploring themes such as personal growth, overpowering past and nostalgia, it also teach us about the magnificent county that Afghanistan once was.

I wept like a child reading this book. Khaled Hosseini makes writing seem effortless; his prose is absolutely beautiful. The Kite Runner is the most visually stunning, profound, and memorable book I have ever read. My heart aches and I don’t think I’ll ever be the same.
