Ich lese ja sehr gern im Contemporary und Erotik Genre und habe daher einige Vergleichsmöglichkeiten. Bücher dieser Art haben es da etwas schwerer bei mir. Ich habe lange über legt, ob ich dem Buch eher 4 oder 5 Sterne geben soll. Grund dafür war auch meine einzige Kritik an der Geschichte. Mir gab es zu wenig drumherum, um die Liebesgeschichte. Man erfährt so gut wie gar nichts über die ausgeübten Berufe der beiden Hauptprotagonisten. Alles dreht sich um das Liebesdreieck und die damit verbundenen Dramen. Auch die Familien spielen eine sehr nebensächliche Rolle. Emilys Familie ist bis auf eine Schwester nicht mehr vorhanden, aber Gavins Familie hätte mich schon sehr interessiert. Es gibt aber nur sehr wenige Auftritte von ihnen und die Charaktere bleiben dabei eher flach, genauso wie Dillons Familie. Ausschlaggebender Punkt dafür, dass ich mich dann doch für die Tendenz zu 5 Sternen entschieden habe, waren die Hauptcharaktere. Diese haben mich wirklich in ihren Bann gezogen.
Dillon ist ein sehr schwieriger Charakter. Emily beschreibt ihn oft als einen ganz anderen Menschen als der Leser ihn sieht. Sie beschreibt Dinge aus der Vergangenheit, die man sich bei diesem (für mich) äußerst unsympathischen Typen beim besten Willen nicht vorstellen kann. Gavin dagegen ist ein typischer Held aus diesem Genre - sexy, dominant und doch mit weichem Kern. Also ganz mein Fall. Allerdings ist er deutlich emotionaler als manch anderer Held dieses Genres, was mich total begeisterte, manch andere Leser aber vielleicht nicht so ansprechend finden könnte. Emily ist mir sehr sympathisch gewesen, obwohl ich, wie schon erwähnt, ihr eher positives Bild von Dillon nicht nachvollziehen konnte. Trotzdem ist es für mich durchaus realistisch, dass sie sich sein Verhalten lange Zeit schön redet, da er sie in der Vergangenheit so unterstützt hat. Für den Leser ist nur leider nicht verständlich wie eine egoistischer Typ wie Dillon sich jemals so verhalten haben könnte oder zu welchem Zweck. Emily ist ein sehr netter Charakter, sie möchte niemandem weh tun und stellt ihre eigenen Bedürfnisse oft hinter denen von anderen zurück. In der Nähe von Gavin lebt sie regelrecht auf und wirkt selbstbewusster. Die Nebencharakter blieben, wie schon erwähnt, leider sehr flach. Lediglich Emilys beste Freundin Olivia lernt man etwas besser kennen. Ich hoffe das ändert sich im zweiten Band.
Die Liebesgeschichte gefiel mir gut, auch wenn Emily sich so lange nicht entscheiden konnte, obwohl es doch auf der Hand liegt, wer ihr besser tut. Aber so ist es ja leider auch oft im realen Leben. Etwas nervig fand ich das niemand Emily mal direkt gesagt hat, was Dillon da so hinter ihrem Rücken treibt. Selbst Gavin nicht und das hätte so vieles viel einfacher gemacht. Der Dramaanteil ist sehr hoch. Für mich ist das perfekt, ich liebe Beziehungsdramas mit Eifersucht und Herzschmerz. Das hier selbst die Männer so heftig reagieren ist sicher nicht jedermanns Sache, aber mich kann das begeistern.
Richtig spannend ist es natürlich nicht, aber das erwarte ich bei diesem Genre auch nicht und ärger mich eher, wenn es dann doch einen Suspence-Faktor gibt. Das war hier Gott sei Dank nicht der Fall und ich konnte das ganze Buch genießen. Am Ball hat mich die Autorin damit gehalten, dass nie klar war für wen sich Emily entscheidet und es immer wieder ein kleines Drama gab, dass Emily wieder zu dem jeweils anderen Mann getrieben hat. Manchmal hätte ich sie gern gepackt und geschüttelt, da Emily das Offensichtliche nicht sehe wollte, aber das gehört für mich dazu.
Das Ende ist sehr offen und ich sitze nun wie auf Kohlen bis der nächste Band herauskommt. Das ist ja Gott sei Dank schon in ein paar Tagen.

Mir hat das Buch sehr gut gefallen. Es war unglaublich emotional und packend. Oft habe ich mich gefragt, wie zwei Menschen ein so unterschiedliches Bild von einem anderen haben können. Die vielen kleinen Dramen die sich zwischen Dillon und Emily und vor allem zwischen Gavin und Emily abgespielt haben, fand ich sehr unterhaltsam und mitreißend. Lediglich den Nebencharakteren und dem ganzen sozialen Leben der Protagonisten neben der Liebesgeschichte hätte etwas mehr Platz eingeräumt werden sollen. Ich bin auf jeden Fall sehr, sehr gespannt auf Teil 2, da dieser erste Teil sehr offen endet.

Major cliffhanger. I am so thankful I was able to immediately read book 2. All along, I kept wincing at Dillion's treatment of Emily. I kept waiting for her to wise up. I was begging for her to give in to true love with Gavin. Since I didn't write this review before reading book two, I may be forgetting some things, but it think this book could have focused more on how deeply Dillion was brain washing her, and the reason why she was unaware it was happening (having seen her mother's behavior). That said, I was completely taken into this story.

I am at a 2.5 I guess.
Throughout this book I had to remind myself of the abuse Dillon was committing. It is so easy as an outsider to be so friggin annoyed by the 10th time Emily made excuses for Dillon but wouldn't trust Gavin. I was So. Over it. But truth be told, I think it is realistic. She essentially doesn't leave until he sexually assaults her. When given all the other opportunities I honestly don't believe that is the moment she would crack. But again, I know that being abused fucks with you. I also saw Gavin to be a bit to aggressive in the end. Like when that was her issue already, why would you perpetuate it 'alpha' or not. No means no (unless safewords are involved) and it didn't feel like Gavin always did that. But tbh I really loved Gavin. I expected him to have some dark secret or like sexual quirk so he was a little boring from that standpoint. But yeah, I started finding it hard to sympathize which in the end made me feel like a bad person.
Oh also. The narrator was Not for me. Sorry, but every 'other' voice including males, kids, and other females was cringe worthy. I didn't like hers as much either but oh well. I admit the narrator may have made my review even more negative but it is what it is.
Don't think I care about what happens next. Also might need to rethink love triangles if most of them are like this one

Not sure how to rate this. Despite knowing everything happen before it did I was still really into it. Tons of angst. But every storyline capable in a romance is these two books. I even read one recently with the exact storyline. But I still had to read to the end. Sorta reminds me of beautiful oblivion. Not sure why but I think it's the level of emotion.

I think I’m reading too much dark mafia romance because this was too tame for me. I am also so used to dual POV with the main characters so this being written in 3rd person was hard to read. I don’t really like that with romance books. I don’t think I’ll read the 2nd book, this book was cheesy and awkward. Gavin and Emily’s relationship seemed forced.

HMMMM....
First off, Gavin is HOT...him and Olivia were the one and only things I really enjoyed about this book, I really loved Olivia's outspokenness and how she would yell at Emily for being an idiot.
I really did not like Emily's personality, I really wanted to PUNCH HER IN THE FACE. which really took away from my overall enjoyment of this book. Her and Dillon's relationship made me want to actually puke..the fact that she kept taking him back really pissed me off. Like just because she thought Gavin cheated on her doesnt mean she HAD to take Dillon back..she could of just been SINGLE and not get MARRIED. She really really annoyed me..there was a chapter where you find out she forgave DIllon for pushing her and calling her a whore and she was going to marry him even though she was in love with Gavin where I literally skipped over sentences because I was getting so mad at her!
After I finished and started the second book, there was a quote from the author about the book being dedicated to all the girls out there who felt like they didnt have a voice and so on and so forth. So now I kind of understand that the author made her like that on purpose, to show what some women are going through in real life so I kind of felt like an Ass for being so mad at Emily...but I still cant rate the book more than 3 starts just because of how made and annoyed I was getting because of Emily's personality and her weakness..it got me so mad!
But Gavin was really hot, I loved everything about him..he is the reason I wont give this book less than 3 stars because I really enjoyed his character and his personality. Also the scenes between him and Emily were awesome.
So yeah! Im hoping other people felt this way about Emily so that I dont feel like a complete ass
