Not one of her normal murder mysteries, but an enjoyable, well written and thoroughly engrossing story. In this work, the disappearance of the worlds foremost scientists, doctors, etc. causes alarm across the globe. A crime hasn't actually been committed or has it? A woman who contemplates suicide is interrupted in her attempt and enlisted to aid in solving the mystery by going undercover. As the pages turn the plot thickens and our heroine goes on one hazardous adventure. Plenty of twists, turns and surprises and an unexpected ending.

A fine easy read.  Not particularly impressed given what I expected since Christie is such a known and revered author. According to the quote on the back this is a thriller... people must have had a low bar for that when this was published.

Quite different from other Agatha Christie stories. Interesting idea and the destination is surprising and frightening. The end was a bit disappointing. I think the ending went too fast. A good mystery but nothing fantastic.

Christie’s spy adventures are usually pretty out there and this one does take you on a crazy ride. As pertains to this type of story, we have an international crime organisation, plenty of mystery, and some murder. Our heroine does come on the scene in a rather peculiar fashion, and finds herself being given a dangerous mission, that of impersonating someone who may know who is behind the disappearances of leading scientist. Yes, it is bonkers. Having said this, I enjoyed it, letting Christie lead me wherever she chose.

This is one of her better 'thrillers' but still nowhere as good as my all time favourite [b:The Man in the Brown Suit|209194|The Man in the Brown Suit (Colonel Race #1)|Agatha Christie|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1390018729l/209194._SY75_.jpg|995869].

Christie's thrillers are never her best work; this is a middle-of-the-pack one, all things considered. The premise is pretty great, with our heroine assuming the identity of a dead woman in order to attempt to follow whatever her secret itinerary was going to be. I enjoyed seeing the clever plans achieved by both sides of this international cat-and-mouse game, which made it all the more disappointing when the denouement felt like it was missing key explanations. There were several satisfying twists; unfortunately, the middle part of the book has the main character doing basically nothing but hanging around and occasionally having some conversations. So it had some great elements, but overall it was rather uneven and not something I'd particularly recommend.
