"I will become a plant that only grows in certain
parts of the world at certain times. I will become
a bird no one’s ever seen before and I will be born
and die without anyone ever knowing I existed. I
will become a secret memory in someone’s head, a
surprising thought that they do not understand and
they won’t know where it comes from. I will become
rising strings in a song, in the background of your
favorite movie when two people kiss. I will become
the little scrunched up receipt at the bottom of
your bag and I will become the packet of sugar you
rip open when you have coffee at your favorite café.
I will become the moon and I will become the light
shining through the leaves of the tree you climbed
when you were young. I will become one beat of your
heart, and it will be the best I’ve ever been."

3.5 stars. Usually, I find his writing like a guy punch. There was only one poem in this one that hit me right in the heart.

A gorgeous collection of poems and drawings. I absolutely loved reading every poem and would highly recommend it! The drawings add a nice touch to the book and honestly, it’s a great read.

*Thanks Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for letting me read this arc in exchange for an honest review*

I received an audio ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion.

I enjoyed the fact that the author, Iain S. Thomas, read the poems himself on the audiobook version of this poetry collection. Thomas has written many poems full of emotions that readers/listeners will identify with. Poetry is something I didn't particularly enjoy when I was younger, but after listening to Amanda Gorman recite her poetry at the inauguration, I decided to give it another go. I'm glad I picked up this book! The poems were well crafted and powerful. I liked that in the audiobook, music and sounds were added in the background to help set the mood.

4.5 - There is a deep sadness and profound hope running though this collection that my soul needed desperately.
