emotional reflective

I've only recently begun to listen to audiobooks of poetry, typically because I don't consume very much poetry at all. But this lends itself quite well to the audio medium, after all poetry is meant to be read aloud. The content was raw and emotional, relatable in ways that I didn't know could be put into words. I also enjoyed the music/soundscape in the background, it helped enrich the listening experience in a way that would have likely been lacking without it. This is the first of Iain's work that I have read, but it was a warm and welcoming introduction.

I accessed this e-arc from NetGalley.

I rarely read poetry, let alone listen to it. That said, this was a surprisingly enjoyable listen. A nice way to spend a quiet weekend morning with my coffee. I thought the narration was nice and the sound editing of the audiobook felt appropriate. It was almost meditative in terms of vibe. I don't know that I will be running to read more from this author but I would not necessarily turn away from it should more of this happen come my way some day.

Thank you, NetGalley for this ARC of this poetry collection!

This author seems to just not know how to stick to one emotion or one subject. They give a sad poem then an inspirational one to try to make you feel hope. Sad then Hope Sad then Hope Sad then Hope Sad then Hope over and over again, it's like "OKAY, WE GET IT"
THEN they try to make it seem like you have no control over your future and no choice on how you succeed.

THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THIS BOOK WAS THE WRITING STYLE. Iain has such a beautiful writing style so it's very unfortunate that his poems are so bad.
