As beautifully insightful as it is tragic and haunting, Machado’s voice rings out among the countless queer women making themselves and their lives understood as profoundly human. It serves as a memoir, a meditation on surviving abuse, another link in queer feminist literature, and more. It’s incredible stuff.

I've got mixed feelings about this. It's not really my place to talk about the author's experience, so outside of that, I think my biggest issue is the writing/pacing.. there are chapters that were too convoluted and overly described in a poetic way that really just takes me out of the book. I have no doubt the author can write, but the writing style is probably not for me.

a moving story depicting abuse in a queer relationship, that i found both comforting and truly heartbreaking.
the transparency of the story and its beautiful writing style were simply beyond fascinating.
