3.52 AVERAGE

Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the e-arc of this book. I was super curious about the premise- "How can Blythe and her friends trust each other when they can’t even trust their own memories?" I didn't realize there would be a sci-fi element to it, but was surprised I actually enjoyed it. I liked getting the perspectives of the different characters and felt they were diverse enough to keep them all straight. I didn't think some of the romantic elements needed to be included and I did guess who was responsible pretty early on, but overall enjoyed the suspense. 3.5 ⭐

Thank you to Kelley Armstrong, Tundra Books, and NetGalley for an eARC of Someone Is Always Watching!

There are spoilers in this review, so tread cautiously!!

This book sucked me in with action and intrigue from the first few chapters. I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical when one of the first scenes was a girl freaking out about cameras and people watching her, but I think Armstrong guided the story into a really interesting direction. She did a great job of laying out little breadcrumbs of clues and slowly tying together the mystery.

I did feel like the additional deaths among the friends were a bit dramatic and unnecessary. It felt like the author was adding additional trauma to these kids and families who were already traumatized enough. Though Callum's death did contribute to the plot, I felt like Deven's was unnecessary and that story line could have been wrapped up in a different way.

I was left wondering if this book would get a sequel. After checking the author's social media, the book is described as a standalone and there wasn't much coverage about it at all so my gut says no. It would be interesting to see where these characters are 5 - 10 years down the line and what other drama unfolded because of the experiment.

I truly did enjoy this book and, while I was disappointed with some plot points, I devoured the book in just a couple days. 4/5 stars.

Someone is Always Watching by Kelley Armstrong is a young adult type thriller set in a closed community. When strange memories start to surface, for the teenagers of the school they need to figure out what is true.

I enjoyed this book but felt they could have explored more of the adult side of the book for more of an insight into what exactly they were doing. Overall a good book and kept me hooked.

I binged this one in a single evening, it was SO addictive. Someone is Always Watching by Kelley Armstrong is one of those books you should go into with zero pre-knowledge, but I can tell you:

- It’s a fast-paced young adult thriller that doesn’t pull its punches
- There are conspiracies and hidden agendas and tragic backstories everywhere
- I loved every one of the characters, the teens are smart, funny, capable
- Every time I thought I knew what was going on, it changed

It's a fantastic, twisty, character-driven thriller and an incredibly fun read.

Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada/Tundra Books and Netgalley for my review copy of this book.

Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors. Her books are always a hit! What an interesting premise for this one! We’ve got a small corporate run town with an even smaller private school. What’s happening to these kids? Are memories being changed or controlled or suppressed? We don’t know but this band of not so merry teenagers are determined to find out what’s happening to them. Who is complicit? Do their parents know? This one will keep you guessing until the very end!

2.5 stars. Interesting premise, but the longer the story went on, the more ridiculous it seemed.

Blythe and her friends are very close. They almost have to be since they attend a very small and private school for kids of a tech company. After a violent act causes a rift between two in their group … their group dynamic changes … and then Gabrielle is discovered with their dead principal and doesn’t remember what happened. Each of them is starting to have strange memories resurface and they question everything about their families. Which memories are real and which are not? Who can the friends trust?

Someone is Always Watching is a stand-alone mystery that was a little slow in getting started but kept me reading once it took off. Readers must suspend disbelief because although this is not technically sci-fi, there are some scientific/technical things happening that can’t happen right now (or can they?). Armstrong has written a strong young adult mystery that is relatively easy to read without any red flags for cautious readers. A good read but not to be rushed to the top of a TBR list.
