I gave this book 4.5 stars.

This is a YA mystery/thriller about a group of friends in secondary school who even start doubting who they are because of suspicions about some really serious event after a mental health breakdown from Blythe's best friend, Gabrielle.

As the teenagers start investigating, others start trying to kill or mislead them, which makes them think this is a lot darker than any of them would have even imagined. Suddenly, some of them start remembering certain things. What could possibly be going on?

Trigger/content warnings: death, murder, blood, gaslighting, mental illness, child death, child abuse, violence, gore, medical trauma, death of parent, toxic friendship, toxic relationship, emotional abuse, domestic abuse, gun violence, sexual assault, suicide, bullying, forced institutionalisation, suicide attempt, fire, fire injury, kidnapping, religious bigotry, lesbophobia, body shaming, pedophilia, abandonment, drug use, homophobia, phusical abuse.

I think all characters were realistic, even though some of the parents were shown as purely evil, but the reason was their obsession with the project they were carrying out, which, to be honest, is quite real in humans.

Our priorities are twisted.

The writing was well done, but I felt paragraphs were too long at times, especially taking the target audience into account. It made sense they were that long because of the topics explained, but the author may have been able to find another way to makes those topics compelling for young adults.

My opinion on this book is biased because I'm a psychologist really interested in neurosciences, I just couldn't put the book down and hated certain characters, but I believe this book is anyway enjoyable

It was a mix between characters and plot, even adding a nice atmosphere to certain sections of it, which made me gap several times when new discoveries were made.

I would certainly recommend this book.

Great ya thriller involving past memories that are scrambled strong friendships one of which has romantic potential and sleuthing.
