What an ABSOLUTE comeback after books 2 and 3 (which I found very meh). I've never read a villain origin story before and I was NOT disappointed. I found myself simultaneously rooting for and hating both Coryo and Lucy on and off throughout the book which was really fun! Well written, truly could not put it down. I want to reread all the other books now and cannot wait to watch the movie adaptation. Consider me hooked on this series again with its edge, charisma, and off kilter humor. Counting down the days to the next book's release!

The last few chapters of this book were the best part for me. The world building felt lacking compared to the original trilogy, and Lucy Gray in particular felt thin. She was supposed to be this miraculous girl, but her character writing felt awkward and forced. I also just can't understand the supposed love between Coriolanius and Lucy Gray. All in all, fun to read for the little refernces to the original trilogy and the last 50 pages helped clear things up, but still not my favorite.
