I knew coming into reading this book that reading from Coriolanus’ perspective was not gonna be necessarily a great experience being that I usually prefer the main characters of stories to be a protagonist. It was interesting to see his perspective and get a sense why Katniss was such a sore spot for him in the original trilogy. Even though we know what we know about him because of the first three books, you do develop a small bit of sympathy at some point especially early on. But of course his destiny is to become President Snow so by the end of it all, he turns out to be a snake of a man to say the least. I really enjoyed this and highly recommend although I will say it’s probably my least favorite so far in the collection. Very excited to read the last and final book.

Suzanne Collin's' writing is impeccable as usual. Even as your hate grows more and more for Snow, her knack for a narrative rhythm that makes it impossible to put down a book does not fail.

Most of the cliffhangers, stretches of anticipation and suspense, and jarring whiplashes were placed exactly where they should be. And in the very few moments where the pacing does feel off, it still feels like it was appropriate for this distant, controlled story we're seeing from this monster-in-making's point of view.

Definitely not as a strong as the main trilogy, but I think every choice that makes it inferior to Katniss' story was the way it was because it lent itself to the nitty gritty details of building this origin story. Not just of a Snow, but also of the Capitol and Panem we were first introduced to and horrified by in the first series.
