Smart thoughts incoming, soooo much of this book was crammed into the last 20 pages holy shit.

This book incorporated many subtle nods to the original trilogy, which I really loved. Much of the action is dialed back from the harshness of the original trilogy, but it is not for a loss because the teeth grinding action is replaced with some wonderfully written and in-depth character development. We see Coryo go through many stages in a short span and one might even feel hopeful at his chances to not turn into the horrid President Snow, but in every challenge he faces there is a little evidence, a little poison in his being, that shows he is Capitol through and through. I gave four stars because I did not feel it was quite as riveting as the original trilogy, and the final chapter or so felt too rushed for a proper ending.

This could have been better, but entire sections felt like they were rushed to get from one point to the next. The abrupt changes to both main characters at the end was just jarring.

A very interesting premise. It was interesting to see inside Snow's head. If you've read the Hunger Games trilogy it won't be a surprise how he ends up, but the story still had a couple of twists that I didn't expect. The ending was a bit rushed, and some aspects about Snow's way of thinking changed a bit too fast, but other than that it was a good story.
