First half felt a little too slow but definitely picked up around the half way mark.

Even though some plot points were predictable overall this was a good book overall

This book really took me by surprise. At first it was all really calm but then in the middle I couldn't put it down anymore! So many twist and turns got me to really love this book and the whole series!!!
The end satisfied me and I want to read more about this world!

5 stars. Gaah, I loved this series sooo much. It is so deftly-plotted, every beat perfectly balanced. The trilogy comes to a perfect and satisfying conclusion, following through on the promise of the first two books. There wasn't a single lazy plot thread or sour note across the whole series.

For the full final third of the book, my heart was in my throat as combined plots from across all three books came to a head, with enough resolutions, subverted expectations and shocks to keep me on edge until basically the final page.

Literally every scene Lady Helen and Lord Carlston shared was gripping--heightened by their long-restrained feelings and the small but passionate ways they found to express them. Seeing them go into battle together, a powerful duo in every way, was thrilling.

3 1/2 stars, the first half of the book dragged a bit for me, not enough action. I'm mostly satisfied with how everything was wrapped up.

The beginning third was a bit slow, but it definitely picked up steam. Neither of the two sequels was as good as the first, but it was still a satisfying conclusion.

This was a perfect wrap-up to an excellent trilogy which has been described as Jane Austen meets Buffy. Lady Helen is juggling her demon-fighting responsibilities with her impending marriage to the Duke of Selburn, and everything seems to be coming to a head at once. Although I guessed at a couple of the twists, there were still plenty of surprises, frustrations, and exciting action scenes. Helen's waffling over what she wants, while annoying, was also very believable, as she is a product of her time and Regency England was not an easy time to be a woman.

I like this trilogy. "Regency Buffy" is a fun concept, and Goodman delivers it with so much more realistic nuance and depth than might have been the case from a more by-the-numbers author. But I feel that this trilogy-ender lets the whole thing down a little bit. It was so fiddly with details that the big shifts of the plot often got lost for me, leaving me in a strange limbo at 80% when things seemed to have been concluded and yet clearly were not. (Pacing and page-length said there was more, but I was lost as to the plot hooks that built the bridge from "we did it!" to "oh wait...")

J’avais prévu le traitre parce que je m’attendais à ce que Carlston et Helen finissent ensemble. Mais une super lecture encore une fois avec de bons rebondissements !!!
