I can't say enough about how ferociously I have been devouring these books. Elena and Lina are some of the most potent, rounded, real female characters I have ever encountered. The feminism is stark and angry and the writing is relentless. Whoever Elena Ferrante really is, she should keep writing like this and putting these books out in the world. Because if I had read this when I was 15, I might have been a lot more confident that bookishness was an asset, and didn't make me any less of a person, sexual or otherwise.

A work of art. There is such a unique and distinct voice to the book. It analyzes class and gender issues, but also Elena’s jealousy, insecurity, and overall feeling of inadequacy. These girls can be so mean, but they are only trying to have authority in their own lives. Rooting for Elena and Lila and really all the characters even when they can be so awful
