The Starter Wife was a great book that kept me hooked the entire time.
Some minor editing issues which were irritating, with many sentences having a line split in the middle. This wasn’t anything major but just highlighted that the book could have done with a good proofread.
I didn’t warm to any of the characters, which made reading a bit of a slog and the plot was very slow moving.

This story gripped me right from the start. A real page turner kept me coming back for more. While I finished the book in just a couple of days, I found the ending to be a bit of a letdown. Rushed, if you will, considering the detail oriented story leading up to the big reveal. While I’m still giving the book 4 stars, it’s only because the first 250 pages had me sucked into this psychological thriller, and 3.5 stars was not a viable option.

I liked this!
For the first 2/3 I wasn't sure if I would like it, thinking that the author maybe did not write women in a way I liked. The last third changed my mind.
This was fun and I was frequently confused about what Claire was doing, which was interesting.
I will read her other stuff!

Things were just lacking in this book - like plausibility and cohesion, but because it had great potential and held my interest long enough for me to finish the book, I increased rating by 1/2 star.

Well that was a fun, roller coaster of a ride with lots of loop-the-loops, twists, turns, and breakneck speed. My intrigue was immediately piqued, and that interest only grew as the story progressed. Just a pure, fun little psychological thriller.
Claire Westcott, a struggling writer, is married to Byron Westcott, a college literature professor, and their relatively cushy life is all due to Byron’s first wife, Colleen;
Colleen, who was much loved.
Colleen, who was a gifted and successful artist.
Colleen, who committed suicide...or did she?
Someone is trying to ruin Claire’s and Byron’s marriage, but is Claire simply paranoid or losing her mind?
Guess you’ll find out if you read this entertaining thriller. Although I guessed some of the plot lines Nina Laurin created, I was still pleasantly surprised and satisfied as the last page was turned.
Thank you to Netgalley, Nina Laurin, and Grand Central Publishing for a copy of the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Published June 11th, 2019.
