Perfect for fans of space exploration (which I most definitely am not) but I did like this story, especially the storyline of Sophia and how long she kept up correspondence with Resilience (Res for short). And I liked the unique perspective of Res the Rover and how Res gained consciousness in the laboratory and ultimately lands on Mars. With other machines, Res is determined to complete its mission, make humans proud, and find its way back home. This is a book with heart that explores what it means to be alive. Looking at the remains of a broken-down rover, Res wonders, "Are we all going to end up just like this?" Indeed! I also liked Journey's voice: "Mean and nice are human words, I was programmed to be efficient." And also "small humans are always noisy" :P ha! Beeps and boops, this would be great to pair with Hello, Opportunity.

The story behind the rover, Resilience, from his own perspective.

This book was really hard for me to get into. I was bored for 90% of the book. It felt like a lot of the book was filler and very repititive. I was hoping for a Wild Robot kind of vibe, but this felt more technical and really dragged for me. I did love Rania (one of the NASA scientists) and the Rover's relationship with her.  I even teared up at the bittersweet ending. If a kid enjoys books about Mars/space they will probably enjoy this, but it fell really flat for me.

I laughed so many times and sobbed at the end. I didn't expect to be so deeply touched and invested in Res's story, but I truly was.
