Representation: Biracial (half white and half Asian) main character
Score: Six points out of ten.

That's it. I reached the end of the trilogy. Well then, it's been a ride to read the entire series with some parts I found more enjoyable than others but here's the recap: Renegades was okay. Archenemies was worse. Supernova was slightly better. As I said before Marissa Meyer is an alright author but not the most consistent but I'm happy to say I enjoyed this one despite its flaws. It starts (more like finishes) with the characters, Nova and Adrian I've come to know now and at this point they need no introduction. I pick up after the events of the second instalment where HQ is in ruins after a war and I also see everyone cleaning up for the first few pages but after that nothing much happens. I must stress the point that I couldn't connect or relate to Nova and Adrian and sometimes it was a struggle to read them, not to mention the other characters didn't help the reading experience either as the writing missed the mark. There was a lot of talk about a new substance called Agent N that removes superpowers from prodigious people and the Renegades would use that to full effect but it already fell in the wrong hands in Archenemies and that happened again so what's the point of using that if it's so dangerous to everyone? Agent N plays a role later in the novel when the Anarchists raid a meeting and in the second half the pace picks up, so much so it's enough to save the story and earn a star (if not for that I would've given it three stars.)

while the other books are about perspective, getting to know both sides, supernova is all about decision and consequences.
Marissa Meyer wrote such interesting characters in a grey world where people try to see everything in black and white. and i will say that it has been a while since the last time plot twists actually surprised me.
and with everything out in the open now, things get ugly and cruel and there were times i was holding my breath, expecting the worst.
it was truly a really nice trilogy, loved it.

what a thrilling conclusion! i loved this, and was gripped from start to finish. i do think this would be cooler as a visual media, and more effective, but it was a fun series overall and the finale was great.

I wanted to read this series because I really enjoyed the Cinder series. So, I thought I would give Marissa’s other work a try. I have struggled with this series from start to finish, this book could have been a 700-page standalone rather than three 400-page books.

This book still follows Adrian and Nova, who we’ve been following for the last two books must now decide whether to keep the mask on or to reveal their alter egos. Both Nightmare and The Sentinel at war, their allies at each other’s throats and their feelings for one another growing, Nova and Adrian battle to keep their identities under wraps as their greatest fears are realized. Anarchy is once again heading for Gatlon City, and this time the city might not survive.

So, the last book, nothing happened and this time EVERYTHING happened, but no one was pissed off about it. About six characters lost their powers and only one of them was shouting and kicking and screaming. None of those characters have actual personality. Everything was repeated that I felt like I was skimming some parts of it especially all the monologues and the action scenes because nothing was worth fighting for it. The see-saw romance between Nora and Adrian just drove me nuts, one minute he is shoving her in prison then she’s innocent, turns out she’s not but he’s just fine with it.

The only one who saved this book was Max. He could have been the ultimate villain or superhero and I would have supported whatever he wanted to do, he could have been the ultimate villain if he didn’t want all the powers, which is the only character to not think of themselves. I would have loved for Max to be this all mighty god.

This book and series just felt flat, I wanted so much more from it, and I wished there was more in it regarding depth and characters personality.

the ending. i am so sad we never got to see an evie and nova reunion. also i didn't like how there wasn't much resolution with the squad and especially adrian and nova. however, i absolutely admire the grace and incredible forgiveness that adrian demonstrates to nova. that won me over. i still am not super invested into their romance, but they are pretty cool characters. i thought it could use more work fleshing out the good vs evil conflict and the issue of moral ambiguity. i also didn't fully understand the whole supernova star thing - i felt that could've been talked about more. the deaths saddened me tho, but mostly callum 🥹 he was the most wholesome renegade ever
overall, this was an exciting conclusion to the renegades trilogy! not perfect, but still good.

I think this book was a great ending for the trilogy with a LOT of plot twists and turning points, which I really enjoyed. There was no boring part in the book and I even wished that it would have been a little longer hihi. Overall, great storyline, great characters, great world and I love that the characters stayed true to themselves till the end, maybe some of their ideologies or feelings changed but their personalities stayed the same. Great trilogy, would definitely recommend. Am not ready to say goodbye to the characters yet😢
