I can't quite put my finger on why I didn't *love* the ending, but regardless, I did really like the whole series, and even the bits of the ending I thought I wasn't going to like worked well enough when it all came together.
Overall, I feel like this series had potential to be the most amazing thing ever that I recommended to everyone I know, but fell short to *merely* be a very enjoyable read that I'd be happy to re-read a few times. Not bad at all, and still recommended for people who would enjoy YA superhero type stories.

This was a GREAT way to end 2020. I really enjoyed myself while reading this series and Supernova was definitely my favorite of the three. As someone who only occasionally chooses superhero centered entertainment, I thought this was a good YA interpretation of the genre. While it may not have introduced anything exceptionally new, it made good use of the previously tried and true tropes. I found the world building to be quite intriguing with the variety of super powers being a particular favorite aspect of mine.
Even though some of the characters could be a bit one-dimensional at times, I really became attached to Adrian and Nova. And this book put them in some tough spots that just tore at my heart. Throughout the trilogy, I appreciated that each of them struggled with the concept of good versus evil and had to decide where they fit within that spectrum. While many of the secondary characters had been sidelined in Archenemies, I was glad to have the teams come back together (with both good and bad results.) The confrontations were always more exciting when more characters/abilities were involved.
I enjoyed the various mysteries and plot threads that were woven throughout and appreciated getting closure for each by the end. I also liked the messages related to what it means to be a hero, not making judgments based on someone's capabilities or past actions, and overcoming fears. All great topics for any age group to ponder.
What impressed me most was the intensity of the action scenes (and there were a lot here.) Each one was tense and exciting! I found myself tearing through page after page trying to figure out what was going to happen. I was shocked (slightly horrified even) by some of the choices the author made regarding the outcomes of certain fights.
My biggest issue with this book came from one of the twists that occurred toward the end of the final battle. It's quite spoilery so let's just say that I wish Nova had gotten the result she had described to others so many times before. I mean, the resolution wasn't bad and it certainly leaves an opening for future expansion. It's just not what I had hoped for -- especially after learning that the author wasn't afraid to go there.
In summary... this series offers an engaging plot with a diverse cast and plenty of excitement to keep readers hooked. It may never top the Lunar Chronicles in my heart, but it was still great fun and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to give it a try.
