Amusing conversations. Reflecting my own.
One of the best book that start with amazing entry. Unforgettable.
The characters are strong. U feel that all the characters are primary and their existence is quite vital. U won't imagine the story any other way. You can't forget them that easily either. With each one of them they posses a familiar air and known sentences you know the author is bound to repeat in any given conversation but it doesn't bore you, it makes you laugh hysterically or smile. Each and everyone of them had his proper ending some way or anther. I'm quite impressed and addicted to Charles dickens way of writing.

2022: Could there be a more perfect book? Setting my alarm to re-read this in 2030...
2010: I love Dickens for so many reasons, not the least of which is his ability to describe a limp handshake. Hasn't everyone shaken hands with this person? (And if you haven't, well... maybe you ARE this person)
"He quite shook hands with me-- which was a violent proceeding for him, his usual course being to slide a tepid little fish-slice, an inch or two in advance of his hip, and evince the greatest discomposure when anybody grappled with it. Even now, he put his hand in his coat-pocket as soon as he could disengage it, and seemed relieved when he had got it safe back."
Tepid little fish-slice! They just don't make Victorian novelists like they used to.

Docenia powieści Dickensa, jednak chyba nie są one dla mnie…
A kaleidoscope of characters and social commentary that brings Victorian times to life. The intertwined threads of the different families and their circumstances are entertaining and illuminating. There is much to reflect on about how times have changed but some of our social values haven’t really changed at all.
