This is a prequel short story in the Colter Shaw series by Jeffery Deaver. I read this because it is supposed to be the first story in the series. I honestly don't feel like I learned much, if anything, about Colter. Maybe this story will tie into the first book The Never Game, but that is yet to be seen since I haven't read it. I also don't think it is fair to judge Jeffery Deaver's story telling ability off of one story. Time will tell if this story was necessary or if it was a short story he just wanted to write

Introducing Colter Shaw and a new series. Great little read, interesting character and just the job to whet your appetite for the first instalment in the series The Never Game. Usual Jeffery Deaver clever plot

this is a novella introducing Colter Shaw. I read it after the novel, the Never Game. I am glad I did so as the novella introduced him and the premise and had a pretty good story but not sure it would have been enough to make me commit to the novel which I did enjoy. I would recommend reading this story only because it gets mentioned in the background of the novel and the plot is good but doesn't humanize Colter like book does.

Enjoyable but very short introduction to the new Jeffery Deaver character - bounty hunter Colter Shaw. I didn't feel I learnt anything I hadn't been aware of in "The Never Game" (which is excellent!) but it was a nice intro.

Introducing Colter Shaw, Deaver’s newest protagonist, this is a good short story. Seems like he’ll make an interesting character and the story was good with this one!
