Inside the Kingdom: Clerics, Modernists, Terrorists and the Struggle for Saudi Arabia by Robert Lacey, is an enlightening "Biography" of Saudi Arabia. As an American going back to Saudi Arabia for the first time since Desert storm he resets many of the misconceptions and stereotypes. I am looking forward to visiting Riyadh soon.

This book is one of the best books out there on the internal workings of largely misunderstood nation.
Having lived in Saudi Arabia for ten years, i know that all the stories in the book have the ring of truth and the author knows his facts

I can not recommend this book highly enough

3.5. Recommended, though not so highly as On Saudi Arabia by Karen Elliott House.

This book was great, it's interesting and well-written and I learned a lot. But, "to what extent is the information in this book true?" was running through my mind while reading it.
