I was really looking forward to rereading this title as someone I knew recently read this book for the first time and deemed it sexist. I can’t remember whom exactly, but the sexist comment stuck in my head. I didn’t exactly find it sexist, but I think why I don’t is due to the context of when it was written. The Victorian Era wasn’t exactly known for its women’s lib.
I did like the novel as much the second time around. It’s creepy and suspenseful; perfect for a rainy afternoon on the couch with a cup of tea. There is a lot of suspicion and odd behavior and it makes the perfect Halloween read to me. I also understand why this is a classic. It would have been cutting edge for its time. Most of the character’s are likable, but Lucy kind of frustrates me sometimes.
For the most part I do like that it’s written in a series of diary entries and letters from different perspectives. However, sometimes those passages are quite long winded. This edition that I was reading from had very small print (the book itself was very compact) and I find it difficult to get through books with small print.
I think this story will remain a classic as long as people hold an obsession with vampires. It’s worth reading once and I’m sure that there are parts that will freak you out and perhaps may make you want to sleep with the lights on.

I tried but let's be honest this isn't Dracula. This is Van Helsing. Such a strong start and then dwindled.
