(3,5) A long and incredibly dense read; Watership Down appeared to me less as a children's novel and more as a rabbit's bible or Illiad or any other epic tale. It's filled to the brim with worldbuilding as seen through the eyes of its lapine heroes, mythological stories of their own, complex use of language and accents for different animals within the world, and lots of lengthy passages detailing the strategical battles they fight as they try to make a place of their own in the world, safe from men and other predators. It was often a tough book to get through, one where the experience of Adams' highly detailed writing often came close to overshadowing the story itself, though, in the end, Adams' heart for these animals and the effort he put into enriching their adventures is what makes this such a compelling read; one where you care for rabbits as if they were your lifelong friends.

Such a beautiful sad story about the fight to survive, friendship and sticking together. I didn't cry at the book which shows the power of music in films. This should be classed as a classic if it isn't already.

I'm gonna keep this super short and sweet. My sister recommended this to me and I was excited to read it. I went for the audio version. Mistake. I think there was so much I lost in that version of the book. Normally I would put this at a 2 star but I know there was lots I didn't get because I was lost. I will be reading this book again, hopefully this year, and it will be a physical read.

Here is to better luck when I get to it again 🍻. Will update review then.

... The characters, the story, are familiar friends, so familiar despite the years since last read.

I did not remember, though, all the very particular, and unfamiliar, plants and descriptive landscape terms.

So I liked this book, I did but not like I would a Sanderson novel so in comparison, I had to give it 3 stars. Would I recommend someone go out and read it right now...nope but for a book club read, yea it was good.
