I couldn't for the life of me bring myself to like either Billie or Jay. I had to fight the urge to DNF the book. That one dubious consent scene??????? No!

This is an interesting one. I really enjoyed parts of the story. However, I could NOT stand the way she wrote the black male characters in the book. It was terrible and borderline offensive. It was so stereotypical. It was cringy. She put every black male stereotype in the book. But the main characters are super passionate and into each other and I loved that.

This book was like listening to your favorite artist’s first album. You can kind of see where they’re trying to find their voice but it’s not quite there yet. Nevertheless I really enjoyed this book. There’s a lot of elements that are now Tia Williams’ signature: messy family drama, dramatic mushy love, and a love for fashion. I really liked these two main characters and their backstories, however, I left the book questioning if they were meant to be.

There was nothing new here. All the characters are basically stock characters that you can plug and play anywhere. You get a behind the scenes look at the beauty world which is somewhat newish, but nothing to write home about. Characters fall in love at first sight, even though they're supposed to be characters that never do that type of thing.
Did not get to the part where she says no during sex and it's ignored, but after I read some reviews where that happened I was definitely no longer interested in finishing it up.

I was with this book, though I thought it was kind of silly how fast they fell in “love” at the beginning.

But then the male love interest ignores her saying no during a sexual encounter. I also felt that the character of his friend Pandora seems to get kind of thrown away at the end.

Looking forward to reading more modern books from this author based on other reviews, but this one was disappointing.
