Book 2 of the Quatrefoil Chronicles duet definitely did not disappoint. After surviving, but not restoring magic during the quatrefoil trials, Cadence finds herself second guessing and regretting not trying again. But the overall consensus is that with so many close calls and near deaths, no one else is keen on jumping on that train again any time soon. Slate is finding himself happy in Brume, albeit constantly freezing his butt off, but with Cadence by his side, and finally knowing about his past, he feels like he has a home somewhere. But Cadence makes a rash, and very one-sided decision, to try again, forcing everyone’s hand when she puts on the ring and puts things in motion again. While no one wanted to go through any of this again, no one is going to let her do it alone, especially Slate.

So the gang sets off on another set of trials, first to regain Cadence’s leaf, and then onto a whole other set of challenges to prove their worthiness to return magic to the world. There is tons of action, close calls, near misses, and curses. The pace is fast and furious, and no one is safe. I feel like in the scheme of things, Slate had the biggest challenge to overcome, and it really brought out the best in him in the end. But the team as a whole pulled together really cohesively, despite everything the quatrefoil magic threw at them. And on top of everything else, the quatrefoil was clearly pointing them towards another mystery at the heart of the village and it’s magic, which unfolded quite nicely - not necessarily completely unpredictable, but it definitely was done in a way that kept things very interesting throughout. It was also really interesting as well to see how the events unfolded and effected the team differently from those in the village who weren’t directly connected to the magic. And even knowing that it was all magic based, that spider sequence was just…. {{shudders}}.

There were a lot of moving parts to this story to bring it all to a conclusion, and to be fair, it was probably a little too perfect of an ending, but really, I’m a sucker for a happy ending, and I liked how everything played out in the end. It was a very satisfying finish to the story, and if you like a good magic based urban fantasy mythos with a good underlying mystery, you’ll enjoy this series.

What an EPIC ending to this duology. It is unlike anything I have ever read and the worldbuilding, detail, imagination, storyline and CHARACTERS are absolutely epic. I adore all the magic and the relationships between all the characters are brilliant. I love this duology and highly recommend it to anyone that loves fantasy.

I so loved this fantastic duet. Cadence and Slate's story was one I really enjoyed reading from the start, it has many aspects I like, their chemistry, the way they interacted, and the secondary characters. I also enjoyed the narration by Holly Fielding and Thomas Locklear.

I am really glad I got the FaeCrate edition of this book. It was so very good. Of Wicked Blood was a book from the monthly box that I happened to buy, it was interesting enough but I probably wouldn't have gotten to it as soon as I did without FaeCrate hosting a readalog for the first book awhile back to prepare us for their second special edition of Of Tainted Heart.

I did find that the middle and the trials were a bit of a drag, but overall it was a good story, and the ending! I really enjoyed it and I need to see what these authors wrote before these!

Cadence's selfish decision to put on the ring really annoyed me. That she did it without discussing it with the others or getting their agreement even tho it affected them all and put countless people in danger really annoyed me. And poor Slate. I wasn't very happy with his curse as I hate that trope but it wasn’t as bad as I feared as Slate is no quitter and soon worked his way into the group and Cadence's heart again.

I wasn't sure what to expect meeting up with our ragtag gang of misfits, but it wasn't this.
It was absolutely amazing!!
Re-starting the game with a twist, Cadence, Slate and the crew have a lot more on the line. And of course we have some nefarious people in the background, causing more chaos. Will our crew win the game and unleash magic into our world or will the curses get to them as well?
What happens next is anyone's guess when they're playing a new game with a whole new set of rules.
Even Spike isn't free from what looms.
