The nostalgia is strong. Also, this cover art is about a thousand times better than Jake's in book 1.
I love how each of the Animorphs have their own personality and skills, and in this one we see how fearless (and a little reckless) Rachel is as she morphs into a cat to spy on her vice Principal.
This is a good book in the series because we learn more about the Yeerks and Visser Three's personality, as well as see a personal side to the devastation that the Yeerk invasion is causing. I'm enjoying these fast reads and look forward to the next one!

I wanted to give this a 3...
But there’s just so much here. This is the first time we’re Rachel and maybe it’s because I know how this all ends, but its interesting to dive into a female mind after the first book is about Jake.
It’s not fair to compare these to Goosebumps as these are totally different beasts but ultimately they were aimed at the same group of kids.
I think my favorite thing is the tid bits we learn about each animal as our hero borrows their DNA. It’s not deep but it adds depth to the experience.
In comparison to book 1 this doesn’t add a lot. Instead we learn motives for a few humans who are under control and the toll it takes on those around them.
In a normal YA tale this would have been glossed over but instead it’s the main focus of the tale.
I almost wish I didn’t know how this s AS LP ends but nothing I can do about that.

Gut-wrenching plot line of this one. I'm enjoying reading this series.

I love Rachel so it was cool to get in her head, but to be honest the second book REALLY should be Tobias's story. I mean, he's just gone through some uh, changes and he seems too well adjusted and it isn't touched on enough. (I'm guessing the publishers wanted the second one to be one of the girls' POV because the first one was Jake's...)
Anyway, that said this book is a good follow up. It breaks my heart a little bit when the story explores what happens to people who get taken over by a yeerk. Applegate does a wonderful job of encompassing a whole bunch of different emotions in 175 pages.
I am way keen to read the next one.

This book doesn't have much action in it at all. This book seems to be mostly used for our Animorphs to gather information they are going to need - about Yeerks, kadrona rays and such. The narrator is Rachel and even though this book isn't the best one in the series, or my favorite, I still loved it and it still ranks high. Only because I have a fascination with cats and I am utterly enamored by Rachels' description of how the cat brain works and how it feels.
