Dathan Auerbach has such a masterful handle on suspense and mystery, I was on the edge of my seat for the entirety of this read. I remember first listening to this years ago, back when it was a creepypasta YouTubers made into online audioreads and I'm so happy to return to it as an adult knowing it's just as creepy and engaging as I found it was when I was a kid. Even in moments where you can guess ahead of the narration what the horrifying reveal of each chapter will be, it still feels so earned and equally as terrifying. My only complaint is that it's not longer!

This was absolutely a rollercoaster of a book and even though you can pretty much guess what is happening since the middle of the book, going through it and reading it as it happens makes it absolutely horrifying.

There is one thing that really bothered me about this book though and I tried to go around it, but I couldn't at some times, but the things the MC did as a very young kid, were just not believable. A kid of 5 years old does not think or react as the kid in this book did and it made some things hard to receive in my mind.

But the story and the relationships and the ending were AMAZING! Great read non the less!

The story is extremely chilling while not being particularly violent. It stirs fears very primal and universal to the human experience. The characters recollection of the events is very believable and I appreciate that it is told purely from his perspective. This only solidifies the realistic, childlike naivete that an elementary aged child would have in these situations. A very horrifying look into memories, family secrets, and loss of Innocence. This could have happened to any of us.
