Zanimljiva priča sa prelijepim opisima. Likovi su realistični, gadljivi, i toliko sivi da ne možete odlučiti za koga da navijate. Esmeralda je nevina, ali glupa. Kvazimodo je usamljen, ali nekako i zločest. Arhiđakon je jedna duga osobnosti (malo vam ga je žao a onda vam se zgadi, pa vam ga je ponovo žao) ali znatno bolji i od Febusa i od Žana (arhiđakonovog brata).
A classic. I understand why this is considered one of the best french literature pieces of all time. It was so well written and enjoyable to read. Hugo surprised me and captivated me!
Editing was probably not that much of a thing in 1831. If it was, whole chapters could have been culled down to at most a few paragraphs. Almost an hour (on audiobook) of descriptions of the Paris skyline in 1481 compared to 1831 just was not necessary. Also, the musings on the role of architecture in conveying stories being transplanted by the printing press and the chapter about the three forces changing the church of Notre Dame (time, revolutions, art) would not have been necessary.
Excepting these chapters and a few of the lengier monologues and dialogues, the storyline was quite well paced and the story was well told. I knew what the main plot twist would be well in advance, but still did not see the ending coming.

Mi aspettavo un Victor Hugo pedante come solo i francesi sanno esserlo: V
Mi aspettavo un tipo di narrazione differente: V
Mi aspettavo che mi avrebbe fatto passare la voglia di leggere un altro Hugo: NO
Non avevo "aspettative" sulla trama: conoscevo vagamente i personaggi, avevo intravisto di sfuggita il film d'animazione molti anni fa e immaginavo se ne discostasse, perciò in realtà, al di là del gobbo che viveva nella cattedrale, non avevo altri punti fermi.
All'inizio è stato difficile proseguire: la versione audio, con i dialoghi conclamati e cantilenanti era a dir poco irritante; più avanti, Hugo si dilunga in una serie di descrizioni e aneddoti storici introdotti alla male peggio e poco inerenti la trama, che ho ascoltato con davvero scarsa attenzione, finché la vicenda ha svoltato. I personaggi, fino ad allora introdotti in modo spezzettato e sconclusionato, hanno cominciato ad interagire, i dialoghi si sono fatti più pertinenti, spesso divertenti (al Gringoire "verde come un'oliva" mi son messa a ridere per strada come una scema) e di lì in poi è stato un ascolto tutto in discesa.
Conclusione coerente con il mood del romanzo.
