I will continue reading next year!

The book is so much more wonderful than that Disney movie. Please read!

Fantastic read. At the start there were a few parts that I didn't quite get or understand why they were in the story, but usually by the end of that part it would become clear and get my curiosity going on to read more.

I never realized that this was a Victor Hugo book... just had the Disney version stuck in my brain. Thanks to a friend's recommendation, I listened to this audiobook and enjoyed it very much. It's so much more than any television recreation. Five stars.

Felt too much like an assignment.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame was originally named “Notre-Dame de Paris” after the cathedral around which the majority of the book takes place. While Quasimodo is a significant character, this is really a book centering on Esmeralda.

And her story is a sad one from beginning to end, with some tender moments that only make the rest more depressing. This book is so depressing it’s obvious why Hugo’s other most famous work is named after miserable people.

The book feel daunting (18 hours of audiobook), but despite being paid by the word, it manages to be somewhat interesting even during long tangents about French geography, architecture, and history.
