The rythm of this book is brilliant. A short book about the small little things that might be bigger than anything else.

This is a brief, but wonderfully written story, and I can see why it was longlisted for the Booker. The writing was so illustrative, bringing the characters (especially Bill Furlong) to life in just a short amount of pages. I found the story so interesting, and you could tell it came from the author's passion for the subject/history. I can see myself rereading this for a meloncholy read in the winter or around Christmas.

I didn't read the blurb so knew nothing of this book before I started reading it. At first I thought it was about a very sweet man appreciating the little things in life. But it isn't. It really really isn't. Inspired by real events it very quietly wrecks you.
