This is my 2nd time reading Ruby Red and while I didn’t enjoy it as much the 2nd time around it really is a quick, funny romantic fantasy.

I had so many problems with this book. I felt the emotions in this book were entirely unrealistic on the grand scale and while this is the first book in this series, the world building made this book drag on. I didn't like the main character. the book being in her perspective, it's hard not to place yourself in her shoes and some things she did were somewhat reckless.
This concept is pretty interesting, but after reading this, I am confused as to what the genre is. It touched on paranormal, fantasy, adventure, which are great genres, but this felt almost too scattered and too information-withholding (I assume for reasons of it being a series.)
Ill continue this to the next book, hoping for Gwen to mature a bit, information to be revealed, and honestly hopefully more realistic reactions to life changing events.

The sprinkling of incest in the last few pages really made this for me
I'm not gonna have a lot to say about this book because honestly there's not much to say. I thought that this book was about something completely different when I finally got it from the library. But it turns out that it's about time travel. And I think part of it's fault is that I'm coming off of [b:All Our Yesterdays|13514612|All Our Yesterdays|Cristin Terrill|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1370046261s/13514612.jpg|19070336] which was an amazing time travel book. This one seemed to sort of pale in comparison.
The book revolves around a secret society that protects the secret that there are 12 people born throughout time that can travel through time. The story begins with a look at two people recently having traveled into the past (which in my opinion ruined the whole twist of the book because I had it figured out from the get go), before settling on the present and the main character of Gwen. She is so boring and so plain and always overshadowed by prettier cousin Charlotte. Charlotte has the time travel gene, or so they think because of her date of birth. But in a shocking twist, it turns out plain Jane Gwen is actually the gene carrier.
Anyhow, wacky shit happens, you meet the annoying yet really pretty male lead Gideon who prefers girls who roll over and listen to him (Charlotte) and likes to stereotype all girls that he's never met into superficial designations. Needless to say, I did not like him.
This book has a lot of problems, mostly revolving around the main plot. Time travel is tricky, but time travel the way it was set up here was just flat out confusing. People could go back in time and have chats with people that were dead and even tell them things about the future, like where to buy property or what stocks to invest in. Yet somehow, that doesn't disrupt the continuum?? That makes no sense. And every other second there are more things being injected into the plot like that each of the time travels are represented by a stone and that Ruby is the first and last, and somehow will close the circle. Then there will be some power reveal. And there's also devices that can help you travel in time, but one of them got stolen and is being smuggled in another time period.
All the while I'm just like.... what?
There was just too much going on here for me to really enjoy it. It had it's moments, but for the most part, I wanted to just...
I don't really like books that were intentionally set up as a series. Sigh.
It's an interesting concept and all that. But so overloaded with overused character tropes. I don't know.
