I read half of the book and I didn't bother reading the rest. It just didn't grab my intention. I've never really liked time traveling book, so that was one of the main reason I didn't enjoy it. Also, I didn't feel connected to the characters, especially with Gwen.
For anyone who enjoys time traveling books, I guess this is a good novel for you.

This book was pure entertainment. I read it in one day, all 324 pages of it. It's got one hell of a fast pace, the kind of book where you just keep reading one chapter after the next and suddenly it's after midnight. However, Ruby Red falls short on a number of accounts.
There isn't much to this novel plot-wise. Really, it didn't follow the conflict-climax-resolution pattern, it was closer to conflict-conflict-conflict. I'm aware that this is by way of setting the scene for the major plot to be addressed in the trilogy as a whole, but one would still like to get some answers and feel some progress through the book. Not to mention the ending, which was probably the single most abrupt ending I've ever come across, and that's saying something because I'm usually so picky when it comes to endings. It felt like the author just called in sick and that had to suffice as a resolution. If anything, the book ended just when it was about to start some real progress.
Ruby Red also lacked a lot of essential details. The world-building and the time-traveling concept and mechanism were too, w kaman marra too, vague. It felt like premise wasn't thought out properly, or at all, and to anyone who watched Doctor Who, this book would probably be comical in comparison.
As for the characters, none of them felt real. They were either too shallow or didn't get enough spotlight. And while I loved Gwenyth's voice through which the story is told, I can't say the same about any of the other characters, Gideon especially, who kept switching between jerk to gentleman to jerk again.
All in all, this was a fun read, but it felt like a draft when it came to the fundamentals of a novel. It's very enjoyable, but don't have high expectations :))

If you like time travel, comedy, a little romance, and really relatable characters, you'll probably LOVE this book. When I first saw this book I thought that it was about princesses or something, but when I figured out that it was about time travel I just had to pick it up to see why it was called "Ruby Red". Something that really intrigued me about this book was that it was written in German and translated into MULTIPLE (over 27) other languages -including English obviously-.
Ruby Red is written in the perspective of Gwendoyln Sophie Elizabeth Shepherd -super long name I know! And she just happens to share two of my names!- who is from a family that can do -and see- strange things. Charlotte, Gwendolyn's cousin is supposed to have inherited the time travel gene, but did her family make a mistake? Well now along with her strange talent/ability to see -and hear- ghosts she can now time travel (quite randomly and dangerously). She is the Ruby -which are red, hence the name: Ruby Red- she is the last time traveler in the cycle, or at least she would be if her long gone cousin Lucy wouldn't have stolen the chronograph. She knows absolutely nothing about time traveling because her aunt and grandma (Lady Arista) always trained Charlotte not Gwen because Gwen was born on the wrong day (supposedly). When Gwendolyn is brought to a place where she can learn about time traveling abilities and travel safely. That's when she meets Gideon de Villers, perfect, longish haired, green eyed, sword fighting, violin playing, full of himself Gideon.
The characters are so perfect and normal -well as normal as time travelers can be-. I loved this book and can't wait to read [b:Sapphire Blue|12637458|Sapphire Blue (Precious Stone Trilogy, #2)|Kerstin Gier|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1361616921s/12637458.jpg|7146989] and [b:Emerald Green|14759651|Emerald Green (The Ruby Red Trilogy, #3)|Kerstin Gier|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1338658979s/14759651.jpg|9823592] This book is a must read!

Almost nothing happened until the third act, and even then nothing got resolved in this book at all.
Gave it 2.75 instead of 2 cause it has the same narrator as “Daughter of the Pirate King” and she kept me going

I very much enjoy the time travel aspects...my only complaint is that the romance seemed a bit rushed and "young" at times
Omg this book was so cute and exciting! I love Gweneths narration! At first it bored me for the first 2 chapters....but then bam! It got so exciting....Gideon is just asdfghjkl!!!
This book started of slow for me. But towards the middle and end, it got really good. With lots of unexpected twists. I can't wait to read the second one in the series, Sapphire Blue.
Interesting story! I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
