Since I've watched the movie already, I vaguely remembered what was going to happen. And all the more excited I was to get to the part where all the action starts. Before I knew I finished 2/3 of the book in one evening. The pacing is fast, the language is very simple, a lot of dialog, little no description of the surroundings. One can imagine that this book was mostly meant for children/teenagers. Because of that the mc's worries and the romance felt a little too silly and superficial. But that's exactly what I needed - a light reading with a stereotypical romantic plot and without trauma and existential crises.
The plot twist in the epilog was completely unnecessar, though. Couldn't they have anyone else as a child? Like LITERALLY anyone else except both mcs. It was already weird enough that the author had to explain that "even though they are blood related, they are too far of the relatives, so it's all good and they can kiss 😘". Like I could live without this knowledge or without this dumb plot twist at all.
I really love this series. It’s not an amazingly written piece of literature, but it makes me happy. There were movies made in Germany & I love all three of them too.
The 1st book is great and starts off the series well. I think it handles the subject well, while better getting the readers to know the characters. I love the banter between Gwen and Gideon. Good banter always gets me. I can’t wait to go back and read the next 2 again.
4.75/5

It was fun! I really like Gwyneth as a protagonist and I find it a cute, cozy read. My best friend's favorite series and I can see why; but it doesn't hold that extra spark nostalgia can bring.
