I kind of thought I would like this better. It's set in France and is about cooking; two things I love. I don't know if it's just that the audio version didn't draw me in, but I mostly was bored. It also seemed like there was just way too many lists of things she ate or that were on a menu or whatever, and I just didn't care about long lists like that.

It took me forever to read this because I got distracted by other more "exciting" books. This is pretty slow moving. I love the time when they are in Paris, but after that I lost interest. The book made me hungry. The movie was much better! (and I rarely say that).

One of my book club buds picked this one. I don't have a whole lot of interest in cooking or France, so I felt somewhat bored while reading this book. It took me longer than I had hoped to get through it. I did enjoy some of her terminology and exclamations - I found myself giggling at her cuteness at times - but overall it was just okay.

+1 for the phrase "sleazy bouillabaisse parlors."

What an absolute joy to read! Julia's exuberance and passion for French cuisine, cooking and life in general just leap off the page. The love she shared with her husband Paul and the quality of the friendships she maintained throughout her life were simply awe-inspiring, and the recipes she described had my little vegetarian stomach gurgling with anticipation - her cookbooks are next on my to-read list!

I very much enjoyed this book. I used to watch Julia’s show on PBS when I was a little girl. It was lovely to learn more about the chef I have always appreciated and admired.
