Hmm... interesting. A little... on your nose, every now and then, and... uh... "I know I'm different" or what it was. A bit too wobbly on the MC not knowing enough, and knowing more than she reasonably could. And in keeping the reader informed, and not letting us know enough. But I liked it, all in all.

Going into this book, I enjoyed it and thought it would be an easy five stars. As the book progressed, the characters did not. They all seemed very stereotypical, which also lead me to having zero connection to them. The ending also wasn’t what I would have preferred.

I will say in the beginning, I thought the author did a great job at making me think everyone could possibly be the killer. I was questioning everything. The ending just fell flat for me.

The way charlotte stepped in, no questions asked, was a good thing for Molly’s sake but also a little too convenient. There were other parts in the book that felt the same way as well.

I enjoyed the book, the first half better than then later. I’m giving it three stars.

I don’t love reading about murder before bed. While the twist was enough for me (not a big thriller girl) we arguably got too much inner dialogue from the MC. Also, not a thriller? Wouldn’t know how to classify though. The read was silly enough for me to enjoy.

The Maid is a glorified cozy mystery about a maid who is obsessed with THE Olive Garden and her dead grandmother.

Speaking of Olive Garden, I’m eating there Sunday afternoon. I’m sure I’ll be thinking of this book while I eat there haha

When I picked this one up on audio, I had a preconceived notion that this was a twisty, dark thriller with a trendy quirky cover… I was wrong. This read like a Hallmark mystery with a smidge of grit and though I love Hallmark mysteries this was not what I thought I was going to read. I was a little disappointed, but I still enjoyed the read enough to give it two and a half stars.

There was also this part at the end that people took as a gigantic, OMG, crazy, dark twist and I just don’t see how it was THAT insane… a twist? Maybe a little, but not enough of one to warrant an OMG emoji.

This was an interesting read for me, part of me enjoyed portions of this book and the other part was annoyed with how hyped it is for no damn reason in my opinion. There’s nothing special about this story. I’ve read that this is going to be turned into a movie and I’d give the movie a watch, but I will not be re-reading this before seeing the film.

Also, having a Mexican character being an illegal immigrant who works in a hotel is a little stereotypical and It’s just not the vibe.

If you’re looking for a Hallmark mystery with a grain of darkness, then this is for you. If you’re looking for the next Gone Girl or The Woman in the Window, this is far from those to books as you could possibly get.

Either way, read it if you want. I don’t give a fuck.

Some mixed feelings about this one!

I liked the story idea…for some reason I am really drawn to things set in a hotel so that was fun and interesting. It was a quick little thriller with some fun twists and turns and surprises.

The thing I felt kinda weird about was the way the main character was very obviously neurodivergent and this fact is never put into words… idk why but that felt sus to me! And she was such a stereotype that it kinda felt like the author just googled “characteristics of autism” and wrote them in based on what fit the plot. I’m not well-equipped to critique this kind of thing but I guess it just felt strange that no one came out and said it, and instead this character is just supposed to be ~a little kooky~. It’s whatever I guess but it just left me feeling some kinda way. I don’t think it was written maliciously but it was odd.
I also felt some kinda way about the fact that
Spoilerthe only character clearly written to be non-white and the neurodivergent girl were white-saviored by the doorman and his apparently high-profile lawyer daughter lmao

I’m mostly willing to forgive though because I ended up enjoying the characters and the story and really rooting for Molly the whole time. Sure some things were a little too convenient or wrapped up a little too nicely but it's ok. I’m almost definitely looking too much into this novel that was clearly intended to be a quick, fun little read so I’ll just enjoy it for what it is lol

And I’ve just read that they are making this into a movie with FLORENCE PUGH as the lead so I’ll be preparing myself to stan that when it comes out!
