I think this book is my favorite in the series so far, probably because I love a good mystery! I also like that it deals with the fact that, sometimes people really do keep secrets for someone’s good. It doesn’t mean the person shouldn’t know, but the reasons for keeping the secret can be complex.

What a joy to finally, finally be back in Nevermoor with Morrigan. This is such a different sort of book

because so little of it takes place at the Deucalion or at Proudfoot House, because the dangers here are more human than supernatural, and because we as readers do not know how to feel about Squall

. Bravo to Jessica Townsend for letting Morrigan grow with such nuance, stumbling, and grace.
