2.5 stars - it was just a touch too long, and something felt awkward about the book. The characters drank too much, and while I found the dialogue funny at times, most of it felt...flat? The audiobook author made it engaging. I like Emily Henry as a writer and think her other novels are better. I did, however, cry a bunch during the last 7% of the book, so make of that what you will.

I got the kindle version of this book because I kept seeing it pop up in the reviews as a good book to read, and I’m glad that I did. It’s about a man who doesn’t believe in happy ever after, and a woman who always did but is trying to remember why after confronting something that rocks her world. Now as this is a romance, we obviously know what is going to happen, with an appropriate amount of angst involved, but there was a surprising amount of depth to the book. I enjoyed the idea that 2 writers, each struggling to write, decide to swap genres, and some of the scenes were heartbreakingly cute. Overall a really enjoyable light summer read!
I started this book because of the - I have loved you for years - trope. I stayed because I was infatuated with the banter along the way but ultimately, I fell in love with the promise of happy for now. I keep gravitating towards books with similar themes without knowing it beforehand and I like to think that it’s the universe’s way of making me proficient at this understanding of wanting and the future. It didn’t hurt that I got that CW rain kiss. I could vividly picture that scene, and the rest of the book really as a movie.
One last thing I want to mention. Usually, parents’ relationship with their kids and each other are depicted in colours of black and white and sometimes even a little grey. This time even though it was through minor side characters, the reader was able to see a whole new other shade of colours (even if it was briefly) with righteous love being the center point. Specifically, the love that’s disguised as doing something horrible for your own good. As if there’s no other way. It’s such a mindf*ck kind of love and it messes with you and it leaves you not knowing if you should feel guilty for seeing it in such a way or angry that it was directed at you.
Overall, I am glad I came upon this book and the topics it touched on even if I might have wanted slightly more.

I've been thinking about how to write this review and what to say and how long I should make it but I'm going to keep it simple.
If you want to read something written well, with an intriguing plot and have some good laughs, then this book is for you. I always thought that people were overexaggerating when they talk about Emily Henry, and with this being my 2nd book of hers, I can safely say that they are not. She really is the queen of this genre. I am worried because I'm afraid that nobody else will be able to quite write contemporary romance as she does. I'm not the biggest fan of contemporary romance but Miss Henry? She just gets it. And for all our sakes... I'm glad she does.
