i’m not too big of a fan of this book. i don’t enjoy the then and now set up in any book, and i didn’t enjoy it in this one. i think that the male main character was not it and didn’t really provide anything for the female main character. it was hard to read what she was feeling and even expressing to him that never really came across to him.

3⭐️- good enough read for me to finish the book but didn’t like the mmc as much as others in the series.

Lots of hearts!

This is my favorite in the series so far. Love the journey that Chloe and Oliver take in the discovery of their love for each other.

Okay i wasnt totally obsessed with the characters and their story but will deffo be continuing the series!!!

Chloe and Oliver have been friends since they were young children. They grew up daring each other, teasing, insulting, and at one point, connecting with each other until they weren't. Connecting that is.

Now as adults, Chloe is ready to expand her father's winery and start a small batch distillery, and her dad has invited Oliver to help her along. Seeing her old frienemy has stirred up feelings she thought were long gone. He's still a charmer and devious, but has plans for both the business, and personal side of their relationship.

I always enjoy a good frienemy story, and this one did not disappoint. While I could have used a bit more groveling from Oliver and a bit higher standards for Chloe, but my evil heart was okay with how it worked out in the end.

As a grown woman, Chloe, being 32 gave me the vibes of a 14 year old and seriously, leave that man in the dust. He played you for 15+ years???? bye

Overall, it was a good contemporary romance. Some enemies to lovers vibe mixed with second chance romance. The writing was good, and the banter was better. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of our hero, Oliver. I never did warm up to him. I felt like he lied to everyone, especially Chloe, thru the majority of the book. And most of his behavior was just childish and immature. I never saw any redeeming qualities in him. Just not the hero for me.
The narration was very good but Stephen Dexter and Savanah Peachwood.

“Are you trying to make me fall for you, Oliver Pemberton?"
He grinned. "We don't fall. We jump.”

Listen. This was okay. I don’t like the characters too much honestly. I think the first book in the series is significantly better. This was just okay.

I am so torn on this review. I flew through this book. I absolutely loved the premise: two people who have known each other since childhood, have undeniable chemistry and have had terrible timing. A playboy who has only ever wanted her, but knew she would never give him the time of day.

tropes and such: Friends to lovers, second (maybe third/fourth) chance, playboy turned dedicated BF, forced proximity (in a tent during a thunderstorm !!), business partners

What I loved
- Dual POV
- Their chemistry was HOT
- The flashbacks to 'Then' gave us a more full backstory and colored in a lot of the angst that had been built up
- I adore a second chance romance
- The forced proximity in a tent during a thunderstorm was beautiful

What didn't work for me
But this book was SO RUSHED. And Oliver BARELY had to grovel for all of the AWFUL things he did to Chloe. I understood that her personality was supposed to be easy to forgive, and he was her biggest weakness, etc...but he basically would come and say "sorry" and she'd be like "oh ok! lets makeout." I felt like I would have believed it more if it was a slow burn. Like if they hadn't gotten together so soon in the book and instead had waited until after the 50% mark, I would have at least felt like she made him work for it. But I was left feeling like I still didn't trust or believe that he wanted her for real. There wasn't really that earth shattering moment where he got called out and had to pay for it.

And this is totally random, but something did not sit right with me about two rich kids finding and using a story about immigrants as their ticket to a successful business. It seemed unintentionally harmful?

Regardless of that, I still enjoyed the book and loved Chloe. I just really wish Oliver had to work harder to gain her trust.
