One of the best books I’ve read regarding the intricacies of nation-building and the creation of state infrastructure. 

Also, who doesn’t enjoy a villain origin story that reads more like an alternative viewpoint to its famous predecessor?

I loved the concept of this book, but I thought that given the amazing range of things the author could have done, it really fell flat. It was a little dull and mundane.

I thoroughly enjoyed this! It's the original work, the musical is its own work. This was a well done retelling of The Wizard of Oz. I liked all the callbacks to the original books. I liked the complexity of the characters. The griminess that L. Frank Baum made light, as it was for kids, but Oz is actually kind of scary when you think about it; and this touched into that world nicely. 

Highly recommend!
