You care about so many characters who then abruptly exit the story.
A very frustrating read.

As a theatre fan, I thought I would read this even though Wicked isn't really a favourite musical of mine, and to be honest this book didn't turn out to be either. I liked the style of writing itself, but as many others have already said, a lot of things (the philosophy club etc.) weren't explained in much depth and require some pondering in order to be understood fully, which almost made me feel like Maguire was glossing over some things, even if this was intentional. As well as this, I found the ending really disappointing and found that Dorothy completely lacked credibility as a character, which really put me off. Lastly, I found some *ahem* 'deeper descriptions' in the book a bit uncomfortable to read, and I kind of wish the author hadn't gone into as much detail as he did about certain things!
All in all I'd say I did quite enjoy this book (despite what it sounds like!) and I think those who like dark fantasy might really enjoy it, but I probably won't be recommending it to anyone.
