the person who adapted this to broadway made a great job at making it more interesting. it is really sad to admit but this was incredibly underwhelming, unnecessarily long and really slow.
I did really enjoy some parts, especially the last 100 pages because EVERYTHING was finally coming together and all the scenes mattered… but jfc there were so many avoidable scenes on characters that contributed very little to the story and tragically died the scene later. I found this choice really peculiar, by the way: telling the story of so many characters and ending it on a tragic death. other than becoming predictable, doing it many times makes it less credible (?)
also i really disliked elphaba and her development, which i know might have been influenced from watching the movie and musical beforehand, but her being actually despicable and mean didn’t feel right.

The book is surprisingly slow given the success of the story on Broadway. I have seen the musical twice and own/have memorized the sountrack, but cannot seem to get through this book! I don't understand!

Re-read this one and it’s still amazing. The book is similar to the musical/movie but also completely different - more detail, storyline, and darkness.
