I cannot believe how much hype this book received. This is like reading the fever dream of a manic depressive nihilist. The only ‘good’ character in the entire books is written in the last ten pages. It is a slog to get through drawn out descriptions of the depravity of a cast of characters, many of whom are simply the victims of character assassination by the author.

This is mostly what I expected the book to be. But the plot doesn’t line up perfectly with The Wizard of Oz or Wicked. It’s in the same universe, but a different telling of the story. This is the longest most complex version of the story. Overall, I’m glad I read it, it was a good read.

The book is definitely interesting for sure. I came into this after watching Wicked at the movies, it is certainly a different story. I have never seen the wicked play so I have nothing else to compare it to. This is not a listen to audio out loud type of book.
